General Artist Statement
I make my art for people who like to daydream. I create characters and stories within my pieces that have the ability to transport the viewer away from everyday reality to a place of wonder and imagination. They reflect qualities I admire and aspire to have as they traverse through narratives of grand adventure. Storytelling is an important aspect of humanity, as it allows us to connect and communicate with others on such intimate levels, especially when sharing stories close to our hearts. I give characters relatable forms and personalities, so they reach a wide range of people and let others know they aren’t isolated in their feelings. My work mainly deals with emotions, a sense of home, family, and adventure. I want people to go on a journey with my characters, feel what they feel, and develop a kind of kinship with them, so they know they’re never alone. I create for people to have something to cherish and look forward to; to know good still exists in the world. I use watercolors, markers, colored pencils, acrylics, and digital media to make my physical work. Seeing each color blend together and interact with the form of each subject inspires a whimsical feeling in my illustrations. It provides me with a sense of happiness and love for life and allows me to show an appreciation for little things in life that so often go unnoticed.
