Memories of a Daydream
When I was younger, I would spend my summers at one grandmother’s house watching movies and daydreaming, and at the other’s collecting bruises and scratches from playing outside, daydreaming a little more. During those days my imagination kept me company and I was transported to places far away to worlds unknown. Growing up reading fairy tales and watching animated movies full of adventure gave me plenty of inspiration for the worlds I wanted to create and be a part of. On days that I couldn’t go outside and enter my imagined realities, I would draw them. I would sit for hours and hours drawing my favorite characters from my favorite stories and eventually that led me to create my own. This series of illustrations explores the relationship I had with my imagination represented in the form of Alice the blue dragon. I wanted to take myself back to places that held memories of creativity for me and try to reflect on how I saw the world when I was younger and hopefully help others remember that as well as they view these pieces. I believe going back to look at life as one did as a child can renew one’s sense of purpose and refresh their perspective.
